Mobile handset key buzz drivers 4Q2009

Social Networking is becoming increasingly important for consumers. This is also reflected in the online conversations related to handsets.
Consumers expect their handsets to be easy to use and simple to integrate with their favourite social networks. Image sharing on Flickr, Facebook and Twitter, or contact integration between social networks and the phone contact list is a rising trend in such discussions. The Vodafone 360 service, Motorola MotoBlur and the sharing abilities of the Google Nexus One are prime examples of inventions that are getting a lot of attention from the online crowd.

With GPS navigation becoming more and more commoditized in high-end handsets, users are expecting new solutions and better services. Location based services and so-called “augmented reality” applications are rising trends in social media and a hot topic of discussion amongst iPhone owners.

Turn-by-turn navigation and Google Maps are both hot topics of discussion related to the different mobile operating systems.

Although voice control / voice activated applications are still in its early stages, devices like the Nexus One are definitely drawing attention to this new technology. Continuously pursing new ways to making devices easier to use, and the whole user experience better will be a key buzz driver over the coming months.
